Hello, and Glad to meet you. We are Tony, Dani and Paula. We operate the facility known as Painted Wings Aviary and are devoted to the care and welfare of exotic birds. We are located in Central Illinois and are a closed aviary. Our avian flock lives in several buildings especially built for them. Each pair and single bird has access to the out of doors where they over look a floral garden and a small outdoor pond across the yard where the wild birds bathe and feed. To the far right of the buildings are acres of corn fields and to the left is our home. Far in the distance are the ever turning Wind Turbines, a landmark to this area now. The nursery is inside our home in a room set aside for the very purpose of caring for new arrivals and in another room is the training, weaning room for those toddlers learning how to fly and understand that human beings can indeed be their loyal friends and companions.

Caring for our beautiful avian family is an act of devotion, patience, kindness, deep understanding and a never ending learning experience. We take our stewardship over these birds seriously. We have within our flock several pairs of birds that were discarded by a breeder because they were no longer productive. We have them now and all they have to do is just eat, sleep and be birds. We aren’t a big aviary and never plan to be. When we started this endeavor together, we decided from the beginning that EACH bird had a value beyond monetary.

Tony is the youngest avian specialist, very new to birds but very skilled with carpentry (he has incorporated some wonderful ideas to make the birds comfortable and above all safe). His heart for birds is so big, he has literally worn himself ragged at times to perfect the buildings. He has devoted hours to our new website, and handles all the new arrivals (he loves babies) with giant hands and a tender heart. He never tires of hearing bird stories and listens with the patience of Job. He also handles the financial end of things.

Dani is Tony’s best half and was raised around birds all her life. Dani was 7 when she raised her first clutch of lutino lovebirds all by herself. She was very young, but extremely mature. Her gentle nature and ability to grasp techniques and apply them made her a natural. When she was 11, she hand raised 3 scarlet macaws on her own. Since that time, she has grown into a young woman with many years of avian experience already under her belt. She has performed emergency medical aide to many species of birds including exotics. She is currently working and hopes to soon finish her education in the medical field.

Paula is Dani’s mother. She has been involved with the care and raising of exotics as a young girl. The years of experience and expertise she brings to the aviary is exceptional. Both Dani and Paula care for all the adult birds and any babies that come into the aviary. Every bird gets one on one by each one of us. All diet decisions are discussed and decided for all of them. Many hours of cooking, chopping, cleaning, research, journaling, hands on examinations, nail and beak (if necessary) trimming, training (the list goes on and on) are all handled by Dani and Paula. We are a family, like minded in our devotion to each other and our desire to give these beautiful creatures a happy, healthy life in the environment they live in. This small aviary may not be a rainforest with Kapok trees but we’re working on it…
